RADA DIRECTING COURSE: HOW TO REHEARSE

Course Details

31 August - 10 September 2010

This is a 10 day intensive course for 12 selected directors run by Sue Dunderdale, an established freelance director and Head of the RADA MA in Theatre Directing, and Nadia Latif, a graduate of the RADA Certificate in Theatre Directing and an active freelance director.

The focus of the course is the rehearsal period and what to do in it: how to shape rehearsals and
work with actors to discover the meaning and structure of a play.

The course is aimed at directors with some experience either as students or on the fringe.

Overview of the course

There will be the opportunity to work with designers and writers but the course will concentrate on working with the actors under the guidance of Sue Dunderdale and Nadia Latif. Other RADA tutors and theatre practitioners will contribute.

During the first week of the course, the emphasis will be on developing a method of
work. In the second week each director will work on scenes with actors and there is a presentation of the work at the end of the course. A certificate, stating the minimum number of contact hours, is awarded on successful completion of the course.

Hours of work

Classes generally take place between 10:00am and 6:00pm, Tuesday to Saturday (week one), Monday to Friday (week two), with some evening work required. Classes are not optional; you are expected to treat these as professional rehearsal calls.
