Course Outline
In four terms, you will learn all the essential techniques in making props, plus organisational and managerial skills and how to control a budget. Your training will provide you with all the skills you need to take on the role of Property Maker on the Academy’s public productions, where you will work with professional directors and designers. In your final term your project work will be exhibited in RADA’s GBS Theatre in the ‘Technical Tree’ giving you the opportunity to talk about your work with an invited group of industry contacts.

The training covers:
• role of Property Maker on RADA productions
• stage carpentry
• practical sessions in fiberglass, woodturning, furniture making and upholstery
• fake food preparation
• technical and perspective drawing
• visits to prop hire companies
• polystyrene carving
• welding
• a shell mould project
• rubber mould techniques
• up to six weeks professional attachment

Graduates of this course have gone on to become freelance property makers in a variety of industries including theatre, film and television and have worked for the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, National Theatre and the National Theatre of Norway.

Entry Requirements
• We would consider it desirable, but not essential, for applicants to possess a first degree or other qualification in a relevant subject and previous practical understanding of the discipline

Admissions
• Intake of up to three students in September each year • You will be asked to bring a portfolio of your
3-imensional work to your interview
