The standards that RADA sets as a result of its training means the Academy makes a significant contribution to excellence in theatre, television, film and radio not just in the UK but across the globe.

Government funding covers only one third of RADA’s running costs, and in order to help maintain its high level of training the Academy is reliant on the generous support of charitable trusts and foundations.

In addition to its core courses, RADA aims to ensure its work has a wider impact in the community, sharing its training techniques and the live theatre experience with young people from some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK.

RADA seeks support for all areas of its work from core costs, to capital development and outreach projects.

Case Study: The Stavros Niarchos Foundation - Schools Tours

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation are supporting RADA’s schools tours, with the aim of giving young people in London the opportunity for a live theatre experience, who for reasons of location of finances may not normally have access to it.

Each production has a professional director and designer, and tours to  schools where students have the opportunity to see the show and take part in a series of workshops. The productions are also staged as part of RADA's summer production season, allowing schools to see the productions in one of the Academy's professional theatres.

This year the schools tour productions were Gargantua, The Ruins and a specially devised piece Boxer Girl put together with students by writer/director Nona Shepphard.

Case Study: The Eranda Costume Store

As part of the Nicholas Cooper House capital campaign, the Eranda foundation provided a grant towards building a store for RADA’s collection of over 17,000 costumes.

Moving the costumes enabled RADA to assess its entire collection, and ensure the antique items, some of which date back to the 18th century, could be assessed and properly cared for.

Thanks to the new facilities, the Academy is now able to offer a new two year diploma in Theatre Costume for up to four students.
