STUDENT BURSARIES

Expanded view of a RADA student in class

RADA auditions and interviews thousands of potential students each year, and a coveted place on one of its courses is hard to come by. The Academy is committed to an extensive community and outreach programme to ensure it continues to attract a diverse range of applicants and offers places based on talent alone, regardless of an individual’s background or financial situation.

As a result, many individuals offered a place are not able either to support themselves, or receive support from parents, to meet the high cost of living in London.

The Conservatoire of Dance and Drama currently estimate the cost of living in London to be £10,705 a year. The maximum student loan currently available to those students with least parental support is currently £6,315, so even with a full loan there is still a £4,390 per year short fall for maintenance costs.

Unlike other non-vocational university courses, contact time at RADA is in excess of 36 hours a week. Students frequently have additional work to prepare in the evenings and at weekends, meaning it is not feasible for them to up take part time work.

In order to ensure we never have to turn away talented young individuals due to lack of funds, we rely on regular bursary donations.

Below is a guide to some of the costs associated with RADA training:

  • £500 – Equity membership, Spotlight membership and professional photograph
  • £1,248 – Annual Season Ticket for travel from zones 1 to 6
  • £5,126 – Rent for 1 year
  • £10,705 – Full Maintenance Support for One Year
  • £13,340 – Full Tuition Fee Support for One Year

Funding will help to cover the cost of fees and maintenance for those students in genuine financial need. 20% of the donation will also contribute to the general costs of training helping to ensure we continue to offer the best possible teaching and facilities to the students.
