GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN TECHNICALTHEATRE AND STAGE MANAGEMENT

Course Outline
This two year course provides a broad practical training in all the areas that contribute to a theatre production. Rich and diverse in its scope and facilities, the course combines in-depth technical instruction with a clear insight into the necessary organisational, managerial and collective skills which also form the core of successful dramatic work. The course creates clear cross reference to other related fields within the entertainment industry – film, television, conferences, events, and other commercial ventures. From the very outset, your training is linked to work on productions, in crew and operator roles. By your second year, you will be ready to take on such senior roles as Stage Manager, Production Electrician and Prop Maker on the Academy’s public productions, where you will work alongside professional directors and designers. You are given the opportunity to choose the roles which are of most interest to you, allowing you to form your ‘career pathway’ towards your chosen vocation.

• Scenic Art
• Scenic Construction
• Property Provision and Making
• Costume
• Set Design
• Production Management
• Stagecraft
• A four to six week professional secondment to a theatre company, organisation or practitioner

• First Aid (students receive a First Aid Certificate)
• Health and Safety at Work
• Technical Drawing
• Music Score Reading
• History of Theatre
• Company Management
• Television and Film
• Career Development

Graduates from this course have gone on to experience a variety of careers in a diverse range of industries. Recent graduates have begun their careers as Assistant Stage Manager at the Royal Opera House, Assistant
Stage Manager at the Victoria Palace Theatre, Stage Manager at the Trafalgar Studios, Assistant Carpenter at the Palace Theatre Watford, Lighting Technician for the Arctic Monkeys tour, Deputy Stage Manager at the
Lyric Theatre Belfast and working freelance in wardrobe, lighting and props
