ACTING WORKSHOPS
At The Royal
Academy of Dramatic Art - for people aged 16-24
As you may already
be aware RADA has been running a series of acting workshops, geared
specifically for the 16-24 year old age range. This letter and booking
form is for the next block of these workshops. As before, the workshops
are held on Saturdays, will run from 10am-5pm and be led by RADA teaching
staff, guest directors and RADA graduates. The workshops will cover
the range of skills taught at the Academy on the full time courses and
may include voice, approaches to text, movement, improvisation, acting
exercises, scene study and stage combat. The workshops are not a course,
and each one will be different so you can book for as many or as few
as you wish, according to your interest. Also, if you would like to
be added to our email mailing list please send an email to: boxoffice@rada.ac.uk,
and specify RADA Workshops.
In the meantime,
to reserve a place on one or more of the acting workshops please send
the completed booking form (see below), with your credit card details
or together with a cheque, or cheques payable to the Royal Academy of
Dramatic Art.
The cost of each
of the workshops is £40, or a concessionary rate of £20
is available for those people who are in receipt of Income Support.
(Please note, Family Credit is not eligible).Places on the RADA workshops
are limited to 28 people and are frequently oversubscribed, so to avoid
disappointment please make your booking early, and also indicate in
order of preference your first second and third choice of dates that
you wish to attend.
Please note the
Workshops are non refundable but if cancelled at least 2 weeks
prior, we will try to exchange your place for another workshop. You
will receive confirmation of your booking by email, and an email informing
you of the specific details of each workshop will be sent approximately
one week prior to each workshop.
The
dates of the up coming workshops, with the information regarding the
focus of each workshop, including the teacher or director who will be
leading the afternoon session are listed below and also on the booking
form below. Please feel free to print this letter and booking form
and pass it to your friends or anybody you think may be interested.

RADA
ACTING WORKSHOPS BREAKDOWN
The
details below relate to the afternoon session of each workshop (2-5pm),
that is taken by RADA teaching staff or guest directors. The morning
session (10am-1pm) is taken by RADA graduates who have completed the
Graduate Training Programme and these people will run exercises to support
and compliment the work of the afternoon, but please note that the morning
work may not be directly related to the work in the afternoon.

Workshop Leader: BRIGID PANET
'Working on a Shakespeare Scene' Brigid will bring a scene
to the class and we will explore it's meaning, the situation at
that point in the story of the play, the characters their actions
and objectives. We will then go on to present at least a part of
the scene, focussing on expression, truthful communication and clarity
of storytelling. Brigid works on the Short Course Program at RADA
as well as teaching and directing in other schools |

Workshop Leader: APRIL PIERROT
'Movement & Alexander'. What are the constituents of
physical movement and how do we organise them to create an effect?
In this workshop we will analyse the fundamentals of bodily movement
and look at rhythm, space and group dynamics to create movement
pictures that will surprise and delight. April currently teaches
on the Core Course at RADA.

Workshop Leader: Che Walker
'Make It Personal' In this workshop, Che will show you how
to strip away the tricks, relieve pressure and deepen your emotional
connection to the text - incorporating some basic Meisner work as
well as other methods. Che is an actor & director in the industry
and has directed the RADA third year productions and the RADA Short
Course program |

Workshop Leader: Joan Oliver
'Introduction to Meisner' Sanford Meisner said 'Acting is
living truthfully in the moment under and imaginary set of circumstances.'
By using some simple games, this workshop will introduce you to
the world of Meisner and you will leave with some basic techniques
that can be easily implemented in your work. Joan is a RADA graduate,
actress & director in the industry and also a member of the
RADA audition panel |

Workshop Leader: Michelle Chadwick
'Creating a Character' This workshop aims to find ways of
truly inhabiting a character through a series of improvisations
exploring the influence of objects, music and physicality. Michelle
is a RADA graduate, actress & director in the industry and also
a member of the RADA audition panel |

Workshop Leader: Katya Benjamin
'Release & Expansion' This movement workshop will focus
on ways of finding the release, posture and expansiveness essential
to performing, particularly Shakespeare. The work we do will assist
your voice & the clarity of your acting. If you have a Shakespeare
speech you are working on bring it along. Please wear comfortable
clothes you can move in. Katya works extensively on the Short Course
Programme at RADA |

Workshop Leader: Gari Jones
'Storytelling' A unique and insightful day using narrative,
dialogue, character and imagery to deal with storytelling, a lost
art form, and yet it is the route of most Art and entertainment
forms. It can all be mind-enhancing, liberating, spiritual, disturbing
etc. starting in its most basic and pure form. Gari is an experienced
Director and Writer within the industry and has directed several
productions at RADA. |

Workshop Leader: Rebecca Carey
'Finding Your Authentic Voice' In this workshop, we will
begin by exploring the fundamentals of free, open, honest voice
production through physical and imaginative exercises. We will then
proceed to work on the connection between thought, voice and word
through close work on a piece of verse. Rebecca works on the RADA
Short Course program as well as extensively in the industry including
the US. |

Workshop Leader: Eric Dupin
'Acting in New Plays' In this workshop you will apply practical
acting exercises to the best in new plays, (scenes provided by Eric)
being produced by contemporary writers. Explore themes and ideas
about the times we live in, as well as more imaginative uses of
dramatic convention and form. As well has his involvement with RADA,
Eric is currently the Assistant Director at the Hampstead Theatre. |

Workshop Leader: Darren Roysten
'Clowning Around' This workshop uses movement to explore
comic situations, comedy characters and comic timing in dance and
performance including Commedia, Clown, Mime and Physical Theatre
with funny voices, funny walks and funny situations. RADA Dance
and movement tutor Darren Roysten has worked as choreographer to
comedians Stephen Fry, Ali G, David Mitchell & Robert Webb and
Sue Perkins. |

Workshop Leader: NONA SHEPPHARD *SPECIAL ONE OFF WORKSHOP*
'GREEK CHORUS' After her successful MAGIC OF MASKS, Nona Shepphard
is running another full day workshop on THE GREEK CHORUS, the form
from which all of our Western theatre originated. You will explore
techniques of bringing these words to life, including unison singing
and speaking, synchronization, echo, ripple and round, combined
with dance and physical work. Nona Shepphard is a freelance playwright
and director and one of RADA's associate directors. She studied
Greek Drama as part of a Classics degree and has directed plays
in Greek as well as English. As this is a unique, all day workshop
the price of this workshop is £50. There are limited places
of just 16, so you are advised to book early. |

'Shakespeare's Verse Into Action' This workshop looks at
practical rehearsal techniques applying Cis Berry's approach to
scenes and speeches provided by Eric. Eric Dupin works on the RADA
Short Course Programme and is currently the Assistant Director at
the Hampstead Theatre. |

Workshop Leader: Brigid Panet
'The Basics of Acting. What is the task and how to make a
truthful beginning' In this workshop we will use practical ways
of making a confident start in acting; using a modern text provided
by Brigid. Through exercises and exploration of the scene we can
find useful ways to approach the task of acting through a truthful
connection with character and the imagined situation. Brigid works
on the Short Course Program at RADA as well as teaching and directing
in other schools |

Workshop Leader: Gari Jones
'Contemporary Theatre ' A Short but engaging look at some
select types of Contemporary Theatre, both in terms of style and
text. We will look at the physical and visual life of some work,
as well as the textual, character and emotional life of some other.
We will also look at how your ideas can be put to making your work
more imaginative and accessible. Gari is an experienced Director
and Writer within the industry and has directed several productions
at RADA |
